Project events of the Sauti Kuu Foundation in Germany:
"Don't be frustrated by life. ENJOY life!"

Every day, the news reports in Germany describe major problems that result in hatred and violence. We are greatly moved by debates on refugee policy and youth unemployment, coupled with a sense of hopelessness in Germany. Particularly the fact that xenophobia is gaining such a strong majority renders us all speechless!

For young people between the ages of 15 and 18, the Sauti Kuu Foundation Germany has come up with a workshop series under the motto "You Are Your Future – Don’t be frustrated by life. ENJOY life!". The kick-off event was held in Tutzing, Germany, on 2 and 3 November 2014 and was very favourably received.

In putting the programme together, care was taken to ensure that the offerings would reflect the interests of young people with disadvantaged backgrounds. The event was designed to offer young people an opportunity to get to know their own strengths, and to build upon these.

Now we'd like to establish a fixed series of workshops in Berlin.

Together with the German State of Berlin and Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin, we particularly appeal to girls and boys who come from educationally and socially disadvantaged backgrounds, who live in or on the brink of poverty, and who have experienced little support in their lives. With our workshops, we create a space in which participants can experience themselves as self-effective.

We are currently in touch with several organisations in Berlin, and on the occasion of our Sauti Kuu Youth Awards on 2 November 2015 we shall choose five groups that will be provided with prominent sponsors, e.g.:

"Not everyone has the good fortune to grow up in favourable circumstances, and one day we may all find ourselves in need of someone else's assistance. So it's important to dedicate ourselves to socially disadvantaged people of all ages and all backgrounds. The sooner you start, the more natural it becomes, and that can only benefit us all."
  Edgar Itt

German athlete and Olympic medalist

"Childhood and youth are the most shaping stage in live. To support children and adolescents at this stage and to give them values is an important contribution that we have to afford for the world in which we live in. Everybody has a personal and individual 'Olympia' for that it’s worth to spark the inner candle to get one’s own light to glow."

Christine Henning

"Every man is the architect of his own fortune – but what if you don’t have the right 'tools' for it. Then I gladly reach out my hand and my “tools” for a more promising and happier future for the youngsters!"
  Anna Maria Kaufmann

"I believe that if we encourage the youth to help others we help to make it a better world. Sauti Kuu Act Now Jugend Award 2015!"

"Being social is cool! Because that's 'the we feeling'. Being social, the we feeling, plays a central role in our songs. That's why my response to the 'Act now!' campaign is also very clearly: 'Count us in! It's great!"

"Children & teens are our future. If they also become socially involved, then that is a wonderful basis for a better world in which we all can live."

"Social and volunteer involvement is particularly important to both of us, and the sooner a person becomes involved, the better."
  Kristin Meyer

"Commitment whatsoever is to look at the bigger picture. Particularly the involvement of young people is worth encouragement – after all, they do not only support the community, but at the same time shape their personality: to active members of the society, who in the future, at best, will raise their voices and shape the future."

Janina Otto

"It isn't a given that young people burn for an honorary post. For me it's great that the Act Now Youth Award encourages the younger generation to volunteer in campaigning for disadvantaged. To take responsibility, to be there for each other, inspire others – who lives these values as a young person already can make a huge difference in his and others lives."
  Ismail Özen

"Social and Volunteerism is of great importance to both of us, and the sooner you get involved, the better."

Ariane Roth

"Everybody has a talent, an inner authentic power. Especially in difficult times this strength is important to get up again. On my way I had the luck of great companions and supporters who have strengthened me in my development. I am already many years in youth work because I want to pass what I experienced."

"Young people nowadays must navigate in a world of incredibly many influences and an almost unmanageable amount of information and opportunities. They must find out for themselves what they want to do in and with their lives. This is where I'd like to help, because they are our future, and they have earned the right to our help in finding the path that's right for them."

The first event will then take place soon thereafter, with 25 young people from these 5 groups. We will offer a programme with a diversity of workshops and activities for the young people involved. Among other things, it spans the areas of personality development, culture, dance, exercise/sports, music and education.

There are currently two things planned:

On 31 October 2015, the young people will gather with the sponsors for around 1.5 hours in their respective groups to begin a get-acquainted session devoted to a discussion of the topic "You Are Your Future": what this theme brings to mind, the wishes and dreams they have, and how this compares with reality.

A camera crew will be on hand collecting impressions. No press! The recordings will then be used for a video clip on the 2nd item.

Songwriter Sebastian Hämer has given us a song as a gift – "Erhebt Eure Stimmen" ("Raise Your Voices'') – a song with the best possible expression of the things many children and young people are going through today, and reminding us that we need to strengthen them for life.

This song will be sung on 1 November 2015 at Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin. From 2 November 2015 it will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Sauti Kuu Foundation.
